Duncan McGrew
RTP Branch Director
Duncan is the Director of the MATRIX RTP Branch over Sales and Recruiting and has been with MATRIX since November of 1998. He came to MATRIX with no previous recruiting industry experience; at the time he was working for GE’s medical systems business. “I learned about MATRIX through my brother. He began working here a few years before I did and he is the one that really introduced me to the opportunity.” The company was expanding at that time and they did not have any operation or presence in the Carolinas. “They were looking to open a new branch office, so I joined to help the business development for this new market for MATRIX.” Part of the appeal for Duncan was getting in on the ground floor…”it was sort of an entrepreneurial opportunity to help the company grow and expand in virgin territory.”
Duncan is a results-driven individual. “I feel like when I take a requirement from a client I’m signing up to an obligation; not necessarily to fill it…I don’t think my client expects me to fill it every time, but they expect responsiveness and to see a good level of effort. And that means presenting quality candidates in a reasonable time frame, who match the need, and who have an interest in the opportunity."
Duncan appreciates that in the time he has been at MATRIX there has been a great amount of trust and, as long as he is pointed in the right direction, he has the freedom to do what he needs to do to be successful. “I wouldn’t have stayed here for 12 years if I didn’t think it was a great place to work. And over the years, I’ve gotten to know a lot of the people I work with personally, so it’s become more than just a place that I work.”
Outside of the office, Duncan spends a lot of time with his family. He has two young boys and he enjoys watching them play sports…”they are very active in their own activities, so I spend a lot of my time watching them do things like play baseball and lacrosse.” And when he has the time, he also enjoys playing golf and tennis.
